Brazilian Soccer Ref Beheaded by Fans

While soccer is probably the 5th or 6th most popular sport in the United States, it's the most popular in numerous countries around the world. They take it very, very seriously and never before has that been more evident than after reading this story from Brazil.

Referee Octavio Jordao da Silva got into the face of player Josenir dos Santos Abreu during the game and ended up fatally stabbing him with a knife he had been carrying.

The crowd reacted in a way that some may consider a bit extreme, though fatally stabbing a player is extreme in itself. The crowd took to the field and tied up, beat, stoned, and quartered da Silva. He was then beheaded and his severed head placed on a stake in the middle of the field!

So, the next time you go to a sporting event and someone has an argument with the referee...just be happy you're not in Brazil...or any country that may take soccer seriously enough to behead a referee in the middle of the field.
