UPDATE: 10AM APRIL 22ND - A.J. Clemente has since tweeted that he never used the word "gay" in his on-air gaffe.

It wasn't a good first night on the job for KFYR-TV's newest anchor, A.J. Clemente.

After pre-promoting the upcoming newscast, Clemente must have not realized that his microphone was still on as he uttered the phrase "gay f*cking sh*t" for what seems like no apparent reason. Kudos goes out to his co-anchor Van Tieu, who obviously realizes what has happened and still tries to keep it together, though the banter between the two is incredibly uncomfortable for the next few minutes.

You can see the video below. Warning: Language is, obviously, not safe for work.

KFYR's news director, Monica Hannan, has issued the following apology:

To all of you who are writing in...I want to apologize for an incident that occurred prior to our early newscast this evening, when one of our employees used profanity on the air.

He did not realize his microphone was on, but still, that`s no excuse. WE train our reporters to always assume that any microphone is live at any time. Unfortunately, that was not enough in this case. WE can`t take back what was said. The person involved has been suspended until we resolve the situation. All we can do at this point is ask for your forgiveness, and I can offer my personal assurance that I will do my best to ensure that nothing like this ever happens again under my watch.

KFYR's Facebook page has seen an outpouring of support for A.J., with almost every person saying the same thing: Give him another chance. This was his first time on the air in Bismarck and you can tell that he was obviously very, very nervous.

There is no word on Clemente's future with KFYR, though as you can see above, he has been suspended.
