In a Facebook live announcement at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning (Jan. 17), Chief Dan Donlin said he would be retiring.

Donlin in his statement said it has been an honor to work with the department for the past 30 years and to be the Chief for the last five.

He says his 30 year anniversary will be in August. Donlin says he will officially retire between June and September and will work with the department on the timeline.

You can see his full statement below.

Donlin says that although he is retiring from the department, he still plans to work and live locally but he does not know exactly what he would be doing yet.

He ends the video by noting that he has the intent to retire but says it is four to seven months out and he'll continue to work hard.

A copy of his letter to Bismarck residents can be seen in full here.
