Bismarck Is One of the United States’ Most Hungover Cities
It's no secret that North Dakotans love their booze, which is why it should come as no surprise that two of the countries most hungover cities are located right here in the Peace Garden State!
Business Insider recently put together a list of the 25 most hungover cities in America and, wouldn't you know, both Bismarck and Fargo show up on the list!
First, let's find out what data Business Insider took into consideration before putting together their list:
Our two main sources were the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's 2011 and 2012 Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System, an annual survey of Americans' health habits, and the Census Bureau's 2013 County Business Patterns program, which tracks the number and size of businesses in counties and metropolitan areas across the country.
Now that you know how they came up with their rankings, let's see what led Bismarck to be ranked at #21:
Business Insider Hangover Score: 56
7.46% admitted to heavy drinking
22.36% admitted to binge drinking
31.5 bars per 100,000 people
3.2 beer/wine/liquor stores per 100,000 people
1.6 alcoholic-beverage-producing establishments per 100,000 residents
Fargo, meanwhile, checked in at #23, in a tie with Providence, RI:
Business Insider Hangover Score: 57.4
3.86% admitted to heavy drinking
28.14% admitted to binge drinking
28.1 bars per 100,000 people
13 beer/wine/liquor stores per 100,000 people
1.3 alcoholic-beverage-producing establishments per 100,000 residents
While having two cities in the top 25 is pretty impressive, the state of Montana had THREE states in the top ten most hungover cities, including Billings (#2), Great Falls (#5), and Missoula (#6).
