The Bismarck Governors secured their first American Legion state championship since 1997, and a spot in the Central Plains Regional Tournament, with a weekend sweep of Fargo Post 2.

The Governors defeated Post 2 7-4 and 9-5 at Jack Brown Stadium to sweep the championship round this past Sunday in Jamestown, according to The Bismarck Tribune.

The Governors were led by leadoff hitter Jared Spooner, who reached base 20 times in 25 at-bats during the tournament.

This is Governors coach Mike Skytland's first state championship in his eleven years at the helm.

With their victory, the Governors will now head to Fargo on Thursday to begin the Central Plains Regional Tournament. Despite losing in the championship round, Fargo Post 2 will also have a spot in the tournament, due to the fact that they're hosting the tournament.
