We all know how brutally cold it can get in North Dakota so we're used to it. But earlier this week, every state in the U.S. had somewhere reach below freezing. This isn't normal.

This past Tuesday (January 2nd), every state, including Florida and Hawaii, had temperatures dip below the freezing point (32 degrees Fahrenheit), according to the National Weather Service. This might not seem like a big deal, given that we consistently see this throughout every winter in North Dakota. But when states in the south are seeing freezing temperatures and even snow, it can be pretty alarming.

Even a dormant volcano in Hawaii, Mauna Kea, had a temperature below freezing at 30 degrees. In the Florida panhandle and near Tallahassee, temperatures hovered around 20 degrees.

The cold temperatures throughout most of the country didn't stop on Tuesday as a winter storm, known as a 'bomb cyclone', ravished the eastern seaboard. It is now being called Winter Storm Grayson has brought heavy snowfall and wind gusts of 70 mph from North Carolina up to Delaware and New Jersey.

Michael Ventrice, a meteorologist out of Boston, MA tweeted about the winter storm phenomenon:

The Weather Channel also tweeted about the live coverage they'll provide on Winter Storm Grayson.

We hope that everyone comes out of the winter storm okay.

On a lighter note, for once, things look pretty calm for the most part in North Dakota for the time being (knock on the closest piece of wood near you). Just be sure to stay warm as usual.
