As we have all heard Autism is on the rise, the North Dakota Department of Human Services last year launched the first state ND Autism conference  which was held here in Bismarck. This year the conference is October 21-23, 2015 at the Ramada Plaza & Suites in Fargo.

Yes, I am a parent who has a child with Autism - I attended one day of the conference last year and I will be attending in Fargo again this year.

This is an event intended to educate parents, therapists, teachers, medical professionals, and first responders about autism.

Special stipends have been set up for parents/caregivers to help cover the cost of the conference and lodging in Fargo.

I encourage everyone who has been affected by or if you just want to educate yourself on autism to take in the conference if you can.

Keynote speakers are: John Elder Robison, Dr. Nancy Minshew, and Dr. Cathy Pratt.

Their are a lot of stereotypes associated with autism, but I feel if more people take time to educate themselves we can all have a better understanding of what autism is and how to cope.
